A Weekend Trip to Club Med Bintan
If you’re looking for a weekend escape from Singapore, you should consider visiting the Club Med hotel in Bintan, Indonesia (a really good alternative to Bali). While the resort itself is not extraordinary, the private beach on Bintan Island is incredible and the sea is crystal blue – something you’re not used to coming from Singapore.
I love how hassle-free the trip to the resort is (especially with kids). You’ll reach Bintan Ferry Terminal by a one hour boat ride, from where you’re picked up by the Club Med shuttle bus. This means that from door to door, it only took us 2.5 hours to reach the resort (much faster than any flight).
Like all other Club Meds, the family-friendly resort is all- inclusive, meaning you can enjoy as many activities, drinks and food as you like at all times.
As per activities, we played Tennis, Volleyball, went waterskiing, Kayaking and enjoyed a snorkeling tour to a close by reef. It’s quite astonishing to see so many fish and even a turtle so close to Singapore where the waters are polluted from the many ships.
For all golfers out there: if you don’t mind the humidity, visit the neighbouring Ria Bintan Golf course for a beautiful round with views onto the ocean. Ria Bintan has a special offer called twilight Golf which allows you to play Golf from 3 pm onwards at a lower fee.
Like the variety in food, the guests in Club Med Bintan are also from different countries of the world. Around 30% are from Singapore, while the rest is mostly from Australia, Europe and the rest of Asia.
As a last tip, take note of the Bintan weather. Don’t visit the island during the monsoon/ rainy season as the sea can be quite rough, not allowing for snorkeling tours or clear views of the ocean.
All in all, the Club Med for me is the best resort in Bintan. It is a very hassle free weekend escape from Singapore, allowing to enjoy the beautiful beach and a variety of activities – trust me you’ll forget the hustle and bustle of Singapore in a heartbeat.
